Per Diem Psychiatric Clinician

The Per Diem Psychiatric Clinician provides direct services to clients and families in crisis in conjunction with Psychiatric Health Facility triage staff at Willow Rock Center. This 23-hour Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) serves adolescents from Alameda County who are in need of acute/crisis mental health services and can benefit from a structured, safe environment. This is a short-term program for adolescents, providing ongoing assessment and crisis stabilization with the goal of discharge to the community or transfer to an acute inpatient psychiatric facility in less than 24 hours.

The Crisis Stabilization Unit staff and inpatient staff provide a safe and nurturing environment as they assist youth in regaining the stability necessary to safely return home or to a community-based placement. The Psychiatric Clinician position works as a part of a multidisciplinary team comprised of nurses, psychiatrists and counselors. This is an excellent position for gaining experience in the field of medical social work!

• Work with triage staff to assess the need for psychiatric hospitalization.
• Conduct psychosocial evaluation to determine additional client needs.
• Develop case plan in conjunction with county social workers, family and/or community based placement.
• Provide referrals and linkages for additional services as necessary.
• Coordinate and implement treatment and services for assigned clients.
• Work with treatment team to determine course of action for follow-up services.
• Develop and maintain relationships with community members and providers.
• Chart mental health notes, treatment plans, outcome measures, incident reports, and other documentation as necessary.
• Intervene with the clients’ behavior management programs as needed. This includes physical management of the clients (implementation of Seneca’s Ahimsa Model Training) as necessary.
• Provide assistance in case planning and consultation to team members on clinical and casework issues.

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or Counseling
• Eligible to register with the California BBS
• TB test clearance, fingerprint clearances, and any other State/Federal licensing or certification requirements
• Valid California driver's license and insurability through Seneca's automobile policy
• Experience working with children in out-of-home care a plus
• Ability to work with a diverse population
• Good organizational and writing skills

Two Shifts Available:

1. Day Shift: 7am - 7:30pm; at least one on-call day shift each week
2. Overnight Shift: 7pm - 7:30am; at least one overnight on-call shift each week
