The Facilities Technician performs general maintenance and repair of schools, residences, treatment facilities, business offices, and equipment. Required are practical skills and knowledge in such trades as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry and electrical work. The Facilities Technician is responsible for keeping schools, residences, treatment facilities, business offices and surrounding areas clean, safe and orderly.


This position serves Seneca sites throughout Contra Costa County.


  • Replace electrical receptacles, switches, fixtures, wires and motors
  • Patch holes and cracks in walls and ceilings
  • Repair or replace sinks and toilets
  • Paint structures and equipment
  • Repair or replace floors, steps, etc.
  • Replace damaged paneling and floor tiles
  • Hang doors and install door locks
  • Replace broken window panes
  • All other duties as necessary for the good of the agency as instructed by supervisor 


  • One year of general maintenance or related experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent informal education sufficient to ensure ability to perform job duties
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment
  • Knowledge of modern cleaning methods and the use and care of cleaning materials and equipment
  • Knowledge of maintaining schools, residences, treatment facilities, business offices and grounds in a safe, clean and orderly condition
  • Ability to perform heavy physical labor
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Ability to work from heights such as ladders and scaffolds
  • Basic knowledge and skills on computer use and data input
