  • Overview

    The Parent Partner draws on their own relevant experiences to support families in overcoming the challenges they face. The Parent Partner must have personal experience raising a child who has received services. These services can include Special Education, Mental Health Services, Human Services such as CPS or Child Welfare, Juvenile Justice or Probation. 

    The Parent Partner works as part of a treatment team and primarily provides support to a child’s caregivers or significant supports. The Parent Partner connects the family to community resources, reinforcing caregiver’s participation in supportive activities, and supporting the caregiver’s participation in treatment to promote achievement of family and student goals. The Parent Partner often works closely with the student’s school in order to help link the caregiver to school contacts and resources to increase academic success.  The Parent Partner performs a wide range of activities, both individually and as part of the team, to facilitate positive changes in the family system. Services are provided almost exclusively in the community. 

    Responsibilities

    • Provide non-judgmental, unconditional support to children and families participating in the Seneca Programs.
    • Act as a member of the Child and Family Team, designated as the individual support person to the parent(s) or identified Supports.
    • Uphold strict confidentiality of client information.
    • Actively engage families in the treatment planning process.
    • Provide education, training, and direct interventions to family members as appropriate.
    • Provide strength-based and culturally competent services
    • Conduct community resource development.
    • Establish and sustain effective channels of communication with coworkers, clients, and all business affiliates.
    • Maintain professional behavior at all times, appropriately representing the Seneca mission and philosophy and encourages others to do the same.
    • Flexibility to work a family-driven schedule which may include evenings and weekends.
    • Perform all other duties as necessary for the good of the agency as instructed by supervisor.

    Qualifications

    • Personal experience raising a child who has received services (Special Education, Social Services, Probation, Mental Health). 
    • Experience working with children with mental health needs and their families, preferred.
    • High school diploma/GED or higher; an Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
    • Ability and willingness to work independently in the community, at school sites, and in the office.
    • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and with a diverse population.
    • Proficient written and verbal communication skills, including computer skills in Microsoft Office programs.
    • Own vehicle, valid California driver's license and insurable by Seneca's automobile policy
    • Clearance of TB test, fingerprints, and any other mandatory State/Federal licensing or certification requirements.

    Schedule

    • Part-time: 24 - 32 hours per week
    • Flexible schedule required, with the ability to work some evening hours as needed
