  • Overview

    The Family Support Counselor in the Santa Clara County  Support and Enhancement Service SES program provides family-based case-management, mental health counseling and crisis intervention to children and families involved in juvenile probation. Family Support Counselors are members of a treatment team, and provide services at the program site, in the community, including but not limited to: juvenile hall, schools, family homes, and county offices 

     

    Seneca's Wraparound programs offer family-centered, individualized, culturally relevant, and strength-based support to families with complex and enduring needs. Wraparound works in close partnership with Department of Family and Children Services, Juvenile Probation, Behavioral Health, and group homes, providing strengths-based and outcome-oriented alternatives to group care placements for children and youth by drawing upon community and family strengths. Treatment and support services are tailored to address behaviors and meet family needs, even as they change over time.

    Responsibilities

    • Work with the treatment team to provide crisis intervention and counseling services in client homes and in the community.
    • Provide on-call coverage to clients and their families.
    • Support client and family connection to community-based resources.
    • Work closely with Probation Department to support client’s probation terms.
    • Participate in meetings with family, case staffing meetings, program staff meetings and IEP meetings when necessary.
    • Complete progress notes, incident reports and other internal/external documentation as needed.
    • Assist with planning for transportation arrangements for school, therapy appointments, court hearings and pro-social activities that support client’s probation terms.
    • Participate in weekly individual and group supervision with the program supervisor or designee.
    • Maintain accurate documentation and paperwork including but not limited to time sheets, petty cash, and mileage.
    • Maintain professional behavior at all times, appropriately representing Seneca’s mission and philosophy.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree required
    • Bilingual abilities in Spanish/English preferred 
    • Must be at least 21 years of age
    • Previous experience working with youth is a plus
    •  Own a vehicle, Valid California driver's license and insurability through Seneca's automobile policy
    • Clearance of TB test, fingerprints, and any other mandatory State/Federal licensing or certification requirements
