The Intake Social Worker serves as the primary behavioral health specialist for youth at the Welcoming Center. They will warmly welcome a youth into the center and conduct an intake consisting of an assessment of needs, safety planning, and crisis intervention as needed, as well as coordinate with county staff to assist their efforts in making appropriate, informed, and timely placement decision for the child.

About the Welcoming Center

The Welcoming Center is a therapeutic, home-like setting that supports young people as they navigate the trauma of placement disruption. The Welcoming Center is specifically designed to minimize the impact of this trauma by providing safety, care, comfort, and therapeutic supports for up to 24 hours while the best and most appropriate placement is coordinated. The Welcoming Center serves young people in Santa Clara County who are removed from their home, returning from elopement, or otherwise experiencing a loss of placement. When they arrive at the Welcoming Center, they are met by empathetic and well-trained adults that provide a calm, stable environment while their individualized needs are assessed and placement is secured.

• Welcome youth into the center and provide them with assessment, support, guidance, and individualized care.
• Utilize the Crisis Assessment Tool (CAT) to assess immediate behavioral health needs and coordinate with the team to document and access needed supports and interventions.
• Provide therapeutic interventions for youth and families as necessary.
• Work closely with county staff to discuss youth needs, relay essential information, and assist with placement planning.
• Facilitate communication between youth, families, and resource families as appropriate.
• Facilitate treatment team meetings which can include youth, family members, community members, Probation Officers and/or Child Welfare Workers.
• Contribute to a positive team culture that centers values of anti-racism and anti-oppression.
• Participate in the review of policies, practices, and data through a lens of anti-racism to ensure equitable outcomes for youth and families and equitable opportunities for staff.
• Participate in all treatment reviews and program staff meetings when necessary.
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with community members and providers.
• Maintain timely and accurate documentation and paperwork.
• Provide on-call response as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

REQUIREMENTS 

• Master's degree in psychology, counseling, or social work required
• Eligible to register with the BBS
• Valid CA driver's license and insurable under Seneca Family of Agencies insurance policy
• Obtain fingerprint clearances with the DOJ and FBI, TB test clearance, and other regulatory requirements

PREFERRED 

• Bilingual in Spanish and English.
• Experience in working with children in out-of-home care preferred

• Ability to engage and develop rapport with children from a wide variety of backgrounds.
• Ability to provide consistency and behavioral limits through relationship-based interventions.
• Ability to successfully engage with families and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

• Starting at $82,400 to $96,400 per year, actual salary is dependent on creditable experience above the minimum qualifications for the role.
