Seneca’s Catalyst Academy is hiring a Classroom Counselor to guide grades 2-12 students to success at their campus in El Sobrante, CA. As a Classroom Counselor, you'll collaborate with special education teachers, school therapists, and education leaders to foster classrooms where students’ therapeutic, behavioral, and academic needs are met. Our Classroom Counselors also support students’ mental health needs, provide therapeutic interventions, and foster academic curiosity. You’ll also have access to embedded MSW and Education Specialist credential programs under substantial Seneca scholarship!

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the structure and stability of the classroom by helping students stay on task and focused within the classroom
  • Use behavioral and clinical techniques to support the mental health needs of our clients; this can include working with students on skills such as anger management, coping with frustration, and interacting positively with peers
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of Special Education Teachers, School Therapists, and School Leadership to promote a school environment where students' therapeutic, community, and academic needs are met 
  • Foster curiosity and creativity in students by sharing your skills and interests in sports, art, games, nature exploration, and other fun activities
  • Participate in weekly supervision to expand your skills and receive ongoing guidance and support
  • Communicate effectively with all staff and caretakers who are involved in the daily life of the student
  • Provide crisis intervention for students when necessary, using de-escalation techniques to resolve conflicts; this may include physical management of clients and implementation of Seneca's Equilibrium Training

Qualifications

  • Education/Experience requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree OR 
    • Associate degree and one year of relevant experience OR 
    • High school diploma and two years of relevant experience 
  • Experience working with youth in a mental health or classroom-facing setting 
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Valid California Driver's License 
  • Clearance of TB test, fingerprints, and any other mandatory State/Federal licensing or certification requirements
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination

Schedule

  • School based schedule:
    • Monday to Friday: 8 AM- 4:30 PM
    • 5 weeks of paid time off, 11 paid holidays, and additional paid school break days

  • Starting at $22.66- $25.16 per hour, with actual salary dependent on creditable experience above the minimum qualifications for the role,
